Ferrari, known for its roaring combustion engines, is set to launch its all-electric model in the fourth quarter of 2025. Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna has described the all-electric model as having all the driving traits and emotion of a true Ferrari. According to Vigna, the defining characteristic of a Ferrari is the emotional experience, and having driven the electric Ferrari himself, he felt that emotion. Early tests with clients driving the electric Ferrari have resulted in positive feedback, hinting at an exciting future for Ferrari in the electric vehicle market.
One of the key concerns surrounding the launch of an electric Ferrari is the engine sound. Ferrari’s combustion engines are famous for their symphony of roars, rumbles, pops, and whines. Electric motors are typically silent, leading to a debate within the auto community and among wealthy car collectors about the authenticity of the sound experience in an electric Ferrari. Vigna has assured that Ferrari’s power acoustics will always be authentic, but there may be opportunities to amplify or better showcase the natural sound of the electric motor. He emphasized that the emotional experience of driving a Ferrari is not solely dependent on engine sound but also involves interactions with eyes, ears, and the entire body.
The Ferrari Experience Beyond Sound
Vigna highlighted that the emotional experience of driving a Ferrari encompasses various elements such as linear acceleration, lateral acceleration, braking experience, and gearbox changes. He stressed that the driving traits in a Ferrari are what create a unique emotion for the driver. While engine sound plays a role in this experience, it is not the only factor. Vigna’s vision for the all-electric Ferrari is to provide customers with a comprehensive emotional experience that goes beyond the traditional roar of a combustion engine.
Ferrari’s plan to introduce an all-electric model does not mean abandoning internal combustion engines and hybrids. Vigna confirmed that Ferrari will remain “technology neutral,” allowing customers to choose their preferred powertrain. The company’s new E-Building, a state-of-the-art facility costing over 200 million euros, will enable Ferrari to produce cars with any of the three powertrains (combustion engine, hybrid, electric) in the same factory, maximizing efficiency and flexibility. Vigna expects that while some customers may never switch to an electric Ferrari, others will embrace the new technology, and for some, owning an electric Ferrari will be the only way to join the Ferrari family.
With the new E-Building, Ferrari aims to meet the strong market demand for its vehicles. The company produced fewer than 14,000 cars last year, leading to extended wait times for certain models. Vigna mentioned that waiting is considered part of the Ferrari ownership experience. The E-Building will facilitate an increase in production capacity, although specific targets were not disclosed. Ferrari’s focus on customer choice, emotional experience, and innovation positions the iconic automaker for success as it enters the era of electric vehicles.
